This installation piece was designed to sit in a reading nook alongside a colourful pop art painting. I wanted to create a piece that would be a nod to contemporary culture but not detract from the primary colours of the artwork.

I created the pendant from over 150 recycled toys sourced from markets and second hand stores around Sydney. I spray painted each one high gloss white to highlight texture and materiality and reinforce the concept of light and shade. Without their riot of colour, these toys took on an ethereal quality that is amplified when lit. The pendant echoes the tenets of pop art yet remains childlike and innocent.
